FLYING WITH YOUR GOLF CLUBS

A golf holiday abroad and taking your own golf clubs can seem a bit daunting, however we’ve compiled some useful information which would make your trip stress free and more enjoyable it’s not as difficult as you may think.

In our opinion if you’re traveling either by plane, train or car and you are wanting to take your golf clubs with you then it is pretty much essential to have a good travel bag for your golf clubs that will do the job, now would be a good opportunity and a wise choice to invest in a new travel bag for your golf clubs. These golf travel bags are designed for the rigours of travel and there are plenty on the market to choose from without having to take out a second mortgage to buy one, prices range from £30 up to £200

Things to look out for when buying a golf travel bag are strong external straps, internal compression straps which hold your golf bag in place, solid stiching on the seams, weight and interior padding. If your golf clubs are still rattling around in your golf bag a good idea is to buy some inexpensive foam mattress which you can easily cut in to usable shapes, you can then stuff these between your golf clubs, alternatively use towels or even socks which would do the same job and give you more room in your suitcase.

External pockets are a bonus to hold extras such as golf shoes, golf balls etc. and of course built in wheels which when in the airport make light work of transporting the bag around.

Make sure you have a couple of good strong luggage labels which are not hanging loosely as these would most probably get torn off, pop an information card inside the golf travel bag with your contact details and flight number on it. Another good idea is to take some photos of your golf clubs and bag and finaly make sure your travel insurance is adequate and covers sport equipment.

Standard airline policy states that sports equipment can be checked in as standard hold luggage if it doesn’t exceed 44lbs (20kg), if the golf travel bag exceeds the weight limit then you’ll need to pay the excess baggage fee.

As a tip it is better to weigh your bag at home and to save costs at the airport include it when you are booking your flights over the internet. As for size, to date the maximum size is 80x120x120cms, if your bag exceeds this size or is overweight then you can use the relevant airline booking managment system ahead of departure day again to save time and costs at the airport.

As always check the airlines official web site for up to date information on luggage including sports equipment etc.

If you don’t want to go through the rigmarole of traveling with a set of golf clubs then alternatively you can hire a set of golf clubs together with any other golfing equipment through our booking form.
